This is has been a week where I have been trying to find my footing in this new culture and place. This country is so different then anything I have ever experienced before. The culture is like nothing I have ever experienced and the little things such as crossing the street quickly become adventures of life and limb. I am doing well so far with the cultural adjustment. There are def days when I get frustrated or I start to miss the States but slowly and steadily I am falling in love with this place and these people.
Last saturday I spent the night spending Fatuur with one of my students family. Fatuur is the nightly celebration of breaking fast during the nights of Ramadan. The family had their kids teachers over and we spent the night eating, talking, and enjoying the company of some new friends. Visiting here is not like it is in the states. Visiting is formal and looooooong, a short dinner takes 3 or more hours so the opportunity for purposeful conversation and talking about faith are endless. I loved getting to know my students family and seeing one of my kids outside of the classroom. This weekend is Eid so hopefully we will be visiting a few more families in our neighborhood. Please be praying to God about these times with my students family, please ask Him that these times will be purposeful and I will have the opportunity to boldly speak the gospel to these wonderful people.
This week we are also starting training for a week long missions outreach we are doing this november to a unreached people group in Northern Sudan. We are starting to prepare for a week of living with these people in tents in the desert. It is very exciting as it is the first time these people will be able to hear the gospel in their history!
I hope you are all doing well, I miss my friends in the States pretty bad right now, so know I love you and am praying for you all. Happy Eid friends!
